Hardcover. Second printing. xiii, 207 pages. Captured here in A Brit Among the Hawkeyes are Richard, Lord Acton's delightful vignettes about his youth and how he came to call the Hawkeye state home, for at least part of the time. This collection of essays, articles, and radio scripts chronicles Acton's youth in colonial Africa, the intricacies of the British House of Lords, the contrasts of life in London, and, above all, his unexpected love affair with Iowa. The seven chapters are divided into memorable events in his life, including: Finding Myself in Iowa; London Bridges; Lost Youth; Lords, Commons, and Crown; America, America; Bits and Pieces; and Fragments of Iowa's Past. Acton explodes the myth that Iowa is a fiat place where potatoes are grown. Readers will be captivated by Acton's stories, which range from his hilarious encounters with the Iowa police to his enthusiastic wanderings in the aisles of Hy-Vee grocery store. A great gift or addition to anyone's library. Very good in very good dust jacket. Signed by author.…
