About the book >.>.> A gallery is frequently the meeting place for artist and audience, but only through the work that the artist cho…oses to show. Behind that work there is often much that goes unseen. This is an unusual exhibition of an unusual artist whose work has eluded classification, often crossing the boundaries of gallery and media through site-specific installation and performance. It comprises previously unexhibited work by David Ward, which has survived the editings of an immaculately ordered studio, and has in one way or another remained especially important to him. As such it offers an intimate insight into an artists' practice and the preoccupations that have underlain his work over the last forty years The exhibition therefore plots an intriguing biographical course, and has been designed to reflect this personal history. It is entirely fitting that the exhibition should be first shown at the John Hansard Gallery as David's career began as a student at Winchester School of Art, now a Scho.
