Buch Erstausgabe
Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Exeter. University of Exeter Press. 1998. Soft Cover. Pott 4to 8" x 6¼ " [20cm x 10cm] approx. 226 pp and notes. Minor reading wear to the covers. Condition is very good. Stéphane Mallarmé, pen name of Étienne Mallarmé, was a French poet and critic. He was a major French symbolist poet, and his work anticipated and inspired several revolutionary artistic schools of the early 20th century, such as Cubism, Futurism, Dadaism, and Surrealism. In Meetings with Mallarmé, top scholars from the UK and USA have been specially commissioned to explore the significance of Mallarmé's influence on some of the major players in French psychoanalysis, music, poetry, philosophy and literary theory. By re-staging these textual encounters, the book demonstrates how the ghostly presence of Stéphane Mallarmé profoundly informed the projects of such key figures as Valéry, Lacan, Sartre, Derrida, Boulez, de Man, Bonnefoy, Kristeva, Blanchot and the Oulipo group. The covers will be protected with a new inert archival 100 micron sleeve which is removable. Please contact us if you would like any more information or additional photographs. About the book >.>.> There are many good reasons for producing in 1998 a volume entitled Meetings with Mallarm? in contemporary French culture. Most obvious of these is a simple matter of timing, for the year will have marked the centenary of the first and most authentic of the poet's many disappearances, which we have ceaselessly re-enacted and in exhaustibly interpreted ever since that violent surprise at Valvins, in 1898, when Mallarm? was still only fifty-six years old:

Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. In this work, the contributors explore the significance of Mallarme's influence on some of the major works in French psychoanalysis, music, poetry, philosophy and literary theory. The book demonstrates how the presence of Stephane Mallarme informed the projects of such figures as Valery, Lacan, Sartre, Derrida, Boulez, de Man, Bonnefoy, Kristeva, Blanchot and the Oulip group. In Meetings with Mallarme, top scholars from the United States and the United Kingdom explore the significance of Mallarme's influence on major figures in French psychoanalysis, music, poetry, philosophy, and literary theory. Commissioned for the 1998 centenary of Mallarme's death, this collection analyzes invention as well as imitation, misreading as well as interpretation, identification as well as inspiration, and examines how this grave nineteenth-century poet has influenced the likes of Lacan, Sartre, Derrida, Boulez, Kristeva, and Blanchot. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.
