Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very good. First Printing [Stated]. xii, 272, [4] pages. Figures. Tables. Notes. Index. DJ has slight wear and soiling and some sticker residue at back. In the 1960s, Korea embarked on an ambitious program of economic development. By the 1980s, the pace of development had accelerated, and Korean companies were beginning to shed their reputation as second-rate, low-tech producers. In the 1990s, strategies of technological and managerial innovation were officially codified by President Kim as Segyehwa, loosely translated as "globalization, " but more generally understood by Koreans as a philosophy and mission to achieve global status in politics, business, education, communications, technology, and the arts. In this book, the authors trace the evolution of Korea's globalization movement and assess the prospects for Korean competitiveness in the future. Despite tremendous advances over the past three decades, Korean enterprises face considerable challenges if they intend to sustain a competitive edge in the global marketplace. The authors identify seven key challenges in the areas of industrial policy, technological innovation, management practice, organizational design, entrepreneurship, and human resource investment. The authors explore the relationships among national culture, management practice, and government policy. Gerardo R. Ungson is the Y.F. Chang Endowed Chair and Professor of International Business at San Francisco State University. He currently teaches International Business Strategy and Global Strategic Management. His prior position was the Victor P. Morri Professor of Management at the Landquist College of Business, University of Oregon. He serves in the supervisory Board of SIOO, a network of university and consulting firms in the Netherlands where he also teaches a course Strategy as a Research Process to senior management consultants. Dr. Ungson's research covers strategic decision making, organizational design and change, executive compensation, entry market strategies in China and global strategies of U.S., European and Asian firms. His works have been published in academic journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal and Journal of Business and International Studies to name a few. He has authored 40 journal articles and co-authored 5 books: Decision Making: An Interdisciplinary Inquiry, Managing Effective Organizations, Chaebol: Korea's New Industrial Might, Korean Enterprise: The Quest for Globalization, and Engines for Prosperity: New Templates for the Information Age. Dr. Park is Parkland Chair Professor of Strategy, Department Chair of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and Director of CEIBS Research Centre for Emerging Market Studies at CEIBS. He is the former President of SKOLKOVO-Ernst & Young Institute for Emerging Market Studies and Chair Professor of Strategy at Moscow School of Management Skolkovo. He was also the founding president of Samsung Economic Research Institute China and a former member of the Academic Council at CEIBS. Prior to his move to China, he was Professor of Strategy at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where he received several teaching and research awards and had early promotions to associate and full professorship. He taught and served on the faculty at the University of Texas at Dallas and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business and the recipient of the Academy of Management IM Division's Outstanding Service to the Global Community Award. He received that recognition in 2015 for his outstanding service to the international community in bridging the areas of research, practice and policy in his work on emerging markets. Richard Steers is a Professor of Management at University of Oregon.…
