The term Ericksonian Psychotherapy has earned a significant place in the therapeutic scene. Now a leading practitioner and teacher of Ericksonian Psychotherapy, a former student of Erickson's who remained closely associated with him until Erickson's death, has written a uniquely personal view of Erickson himself, his basic ideas and techniques, his contributions to psychotherapy, and his highly individual methods of teaching. In the first section on Erickson's Creativity, Zeig describes the four basic areas in which Erickson's genius was apparent: as hypnotist, as psychotherapist, as teacher, and as an individual who overcame tremendous lifelong physical handicaps - in fact, made use of them - to develop his distinctive approach to psychotherapy. Then, an illuminating section on The Ericksonian Approach shows how Erickson parted from traditional psychotherapeutic approaches to make his own contributions to theory and practice. Zeig here describes basic elements of Ericksonian Psychotherapy. In the next section on Experiences with Milton Erickson, Zeig reports in detail his personal therapy supervision with Erickson and the unique teaching methods utilized by Erickson. It presents the transcript of the first three full days Zeig spent learning from Erickson who described and discussed a number of previously unreported cases.
