About the Book Inspector Mouse is a delightful detective story featuring a cast of eccentric mice. When Fatty Mouse's secret cheese hoard is stolen, Inspector Mouse and his sidekick Toothy Mouse are on the case. Their investigation leads them through a shadowy waterfront, a jazz club (with the band "The Roquefours"), and a dramatic showdown with a gang of cheese thieves. Steadman's illustrations are vibrant, humorous, and full of his signature expressive energy — from the moody harbour scenes under a huge moon to the chaotic raid finale. The book is dedicated "For Reginald and Hunter" and includes wonderful details like the magnifying glass title page vignette. It follows the success of Stone and Steadman's earlier collaboration Emergency Mouse. Bibliographic Details First edition, first printing, 1980 Oblong quarto (approx. 23 x 21 cm), 32 pages Fully illustrated in colour Pictorial glazed boards (no dust jacket issued) ISBN 0905478843 Author & Illustrator Bernard Stone (1920-2019) was a British author and bookseller known for his whimsical children's stories, often collaborating with major illustrators. Ralph Steadman (b. 1936) is one of Britain's most acclaimed and distinctive artists/illustrators. Famous for his work with Hunter S. Thompson (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), he has also created unforgettable children's books. His energetic, ink-heavy style with bold washes perfectly suits the adventurous, slightly anarchic tone of Inspector Mouse. This title is a highlight of his children's illustration output alongside Emergency Mouse and Quasimodo Mouse. Why Collect This Copy?
