Softcovers. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. 1978. First edition. iv, 84pp., numerous black and white illustrations and 3-view scale drawings. The Etrich Taube, also known by the names of the various later manufacturers who built versions of the type, such as the Rumpler Taube, was a pre-World War I monoplane aircraft. It was…the first military aeroplane to be mass-produced in Germany. The Taube was designed in 1909 by Igo Etrich of Austria-Hungary, and first flew in 1910. It was licensed for serial production by Lohner-Werke in Austria and by Edmund Rumpler in Germany. Despite its name (Taube means "dove"), the Taube's unique wing form was modeled, not after any bird, but rather copied from the seeds of Alsomitra macrocarpa. This profusely illustrated book describes the origins, develpment and history of the Taube. The book is bound in the original blue card covers with red titling on the spine and front cover and an illustration of a Taube on the front cover. The book is in very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling to the covers. There is a small dent near the top corner of the front cover and a little scraping on the rear cover. The bottom of the spine is worn with a little bit of damage and there is a small crease across the bottom corner of the rear cover. The contents are secure and clean with a small dent near the top corner of the title and contents pages. There is no inscription. Loosely inserted at the start of the book is an article on the Etrick Taube from a magazine of 1962 and two illustrated sheets of card that appear to have been cut from a model construction kit for a Taube.
