Buch
Hardcover. Zustand: Like New. A bright, fresh copy. No slipcase. A follow-up volume to Eastman's popular account of an African safari, compiled from a collection of letters related to his second trip to Africa in 1928. Foreword by Elias Mandala, introduction by Kenneth M. Cameron. Illustrated with photographs by Eastman and fellow adventurer Martin Johnson. "George Eastman (July 12, 1854 - March 14, 1932) founded the Eastman Kodak Company and invented roll film, helping to bring photography to the mainstream. The roll film was also the basis for the invention of the motion picture film in 1888 by world's first filmmaker, Louis Le Prince. Eastman was already 72 when he made his first trip to East Africa. As Kenneth Cameron has written of Eastman?s first hunting safari: ?Combining danger and caution, rigor and civilized comfort, it can be taken as a model for the fully developed safari as laid on by the great companies of Nairobi for wealthy clients.? His professional ?white hunter? was Philip Percival, who later accompanied Hemingway in 1932 and reputedly became the model for the professional hunter featured in Hemingway?s novel The Green Hills of Africa. Percival was also his guide for his second safari. Eastman also took an immense pleasure in his African travels and cinema footage and photography were as important a part of these safaris as the hunting. On his safaris he was accompanied by photographer and film-maker, Martin Johnson and his wife Osa.
