Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This volume presents a detailed transcript of a public debate on the topic of slavery, held in Cincinnati, Ohio, in October 1845. The debate features Jonathan Blanchard, a prominent abolitionist, and Nathan Lewis Rice, a Presbyterian minister who defended the institution of slavery based on biblical interpretation and social order. The discussions cover a wide range of arguments concerning the morality, legality, and economic impact of slavery. Blanchard argues for the immediate abolition of slavery on moral and ethical grounds, while Rice attempts to justify it within the context of religious teachings and societal norms of the time. This record provides valuable insight into the complex and deeply divisive issue of slavery in antebellum America.'A Debate On Slavery' offers a unique primary source for understanding the intellectual and moral climate of the period, making it an essential resource for historians, students, and anyone interested in the history of American slavery and the abolitionist movement. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
