The author emphasizes the importance of primary documents and presents a historical narrative using original research from the British Museum and Public Record Office. Among the topics explored are Lord Reay and his duel letter to the Earl of Carlisle, Lord Reay and General Monck's articles of agreement, Lord Berriedale and his son's correspondence, the earldom of Ross, a Badenoch ultimatum, and Lord Seaforth's campaign. These essays provide fresh perspectives on the historical events of the time and offer valuable insights into the complexities of the Jacobite risings and the broader historical context of the period.
