The book chronicles Savery's life, focusing on his religious experiences, his journey to become a minister, and his travels throughout the United States. The author describes Savery's struggles with sin and his eventual conversion to a life of piety. The book then details Savery's travels throughout the United States as a minister, with particular emphasis on his visit to South Carolina where he witnessed the horrors of slavery. Savery's journey is also notable for his mission to the Indian tribes of the North West, where he sought to establish peace and friendship between the Indians and the white settlers.
