This book offers a fascinating journey through the evolution of the Swedish mass, tracing its development from the medieval Latin rite to its vernacular form. The author delves into the historical context of the Reformation in Sweden, highlighting the pivotal role of figures like Olavus Petri and Laurentius Petri in shaping the national church. The book explores the influence of German models on the Swedish liturgy, analyzing the changes Olavus Petri made to the traditional structure of the mass, including the omission of the Offertory, the integration of the Institution narrative into the Preface, and the introduction of vernacular hymns and prayers. By examining the various revisions of the Swedish mass, the author reveals a dynamic process of adaptation and innovation in liturgical practice, shedding light on the theological and cultural shifts that occurred in Sweden during this transformative period.
