The author discusses the problems with using these inscriptions as sources for Assyrian history and their development as historical records, illustrating how different sources and editions had varying levels of accuracy and completeness. Through this, the author demonstrates that the most accessible editions are often the latest and poorest and that discovering which documents are the most nearly contemporaneous is the key to a correct understanding of Assyrian history.
