The author illuminates the comparative anatomy of the occipital region, particularly the medial surface and the calcarine sulcus, across various vertebrates, from fishes to mammals. Through this exploration, the book traces the evolution of the primary visual cortex and its relation to the calcarine sulcus, shedding light on the development of this crucial brain area. The author further examines the visual path in humans, emphasizing the significance of the optic chiasma, optic tracts, and lateral geniculate bodies. By mapping the intricate connections between the retina and the occipital cortex, this book underscores the complexities of the neural pathways responsible for sight.
