This book pays tribute to the late Representative George Washington Kipp, a self-made Pennsylvanian lumberman and banker who entered politics and rose to prominence in the Democratic party. Despite his lack of formal education, he proved to be a capable and dedicated public servant, embodying the ideals of the common man. His greatest political achievement was winning two terms as the Democratic representative of a staunchly Republican district thanks to his friendly nature and commitment to fairness. His life and career exemplified the quintessential American values of opportunity, hard work, and perseverance.
