It discusses experiments carried out there from 1873 to the present day, with a focus on the selective breeding of salmonids to improve their resilience and reproductive success. The author, a pioneer in the field, reveals that the age and maturity of parent trout play a vital role in determining the offspring's chance of survival, and that careful breeding can significantly boost their numbers. This is the first time these methods have been successfully employed, and their significance cannot be overstated; they prove that aquaculture can be profitable and sustainable, and provide a valuable model for the future of fish farming.
