This book, written by a chaplain to an English Earl, offers a comprehensive exploration of morality, challenging the prevailing skepticism of a contemporary society about the existence of objective moral truths. The author examines established moral principles, drawing from both classical philosophers and Christian teachings, to demonstrate how morality is grounded in human nature. He argues that, contrary to the fashionable belief of the era, humans are capable of acting out of genuine benevolence and public-spiritedness, and that morality is not merely a matter of self-interest. Altogether, this profound work provides a compelling defense of the existence of natural moral law, offering a timeless contribution to moral philosophy.
