The author takes the reader on a journey through the history and geography of the Vedda country, examining how their territory has shrunk over time from a once vast expanse to its current limited confines. By delving into ancient chronicles and early travelers' accounts, the book sheds light on the Vedda's complex relationship with the Sinhalese, the dominant population of the island. The author argues that the Sinhalese, while acknowledging the Vedda's influence on their culture and society, have often overlooked the impact the Veddas have had on their own history. The book further examines the Vedda social structure, family life, religious beliefs, and unique customs, offering valuable insights into a culture on the verge of disappearing. Through this in-depth study, the author paints a vivid portrait of the Veddas, showcasing their resilience and adaptability in the face of an evolving world.
