Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a historical analysis of the relationship between monarchy and Protestantism in England during the 17th century. The author argues that the two were closely intertwined, with the monarchy using Protestantism to shore up its power and the Protestant establishment using the monarchy to protect its interests. This mutually beneficial relationship, however, was always fragile as evinced by the English Civil War where tensions between the two forces boiled over into open conflict. The author provides a nuanced and deeply researched account of this complex relationship, shedding new light on the development of both the English monarchy and Protestantism. Combining archival research with a deep understanding of the historical context, the author makes a significant contribution to our understanding of this important period in English history, with implications for understanding the relationship between religion and politics more generally.
