The tracts shed light on the complex political, religious, and social landscape of Ireland during French's life in the 17th century. This book explores how the authorâs writings both reflected and shaped the religious and political culture of his time. French was an advocate for the Catholic Church during the Penal Laws, resulting in his exile from Ireland. However, he maintained his leadership role in the Church as Coadjutor Bishop of Ghent. French's work offers unique insights into the struggle for religious freedom and the preservation of Irish culture during a turbulent historical period.
