Das aus dieser Arbeit entwickelte ikonografische Modell des USAF-Hangars war ein tatsächlicher 'Wendepunkt im Bauen': Die entworfene Struktur stellt ein nahezu futuristisches Versprechen einer voll industrialisierten Baukultur dar, deren Bildhaftigkeit zugleich unmittelbare Grundlage diverser Architekturavantgarden wurde. Stressing Wachsmann unternimmt den Versuch, Konrad Wachsmanns Leistung für die Architekturgeschichte endlich angemessen zu verorten und dabei auch die geistigen wie materiellen Bedingungen des Konstruierens von damals und heute kritisch miteinander zu vergleichen.
