Unlike conventional crop plants, Suaeda is able to survive and reproduce in saline habitats, right from coastal regions, salt marshes, mudflats and inland deserts. Moreover, these species exhibit complex mechanism at physiological, cellular and molecular levels (viz. synthesis and expression of stress associated gene as well as accumulation of stress associated metabolites) enabling them to successfully cope with hostile conditions.
