About The Book: The Martial Races of India examines the British colonial concept of "martial races," a classification of certain ethnic groups in India that were deemed particularly suited for military service. The book explores how the British identified and utilized these groups, such as the Sikhs, Gurkhas, and Rajputs, to serve in the British Indian Army. It delves into the historical, social, and cultural factors that led to the creation of this category and its lasting effects on Indian society. The book also critiques the racial stereotyping and its impact on India's identity, military culture, and the role of these communities in post-colonial India.
