Readers will enjoy this wonderful depiction of a guy genuinely worthy of the epithet 'Great.'" "Fast-paced and dramatic, much like Alexander himself, this is a fantastic introduction into one of the most spectacular real events of history." "Lean, erudite, and distinguished by excellent judgment on every page, Alexander the Great is also a roaring good yarn. Philip Freeman has the sight of someone who has walked in Alexander's shoes, and he writes with elegance and wisdom." "sir Harry mason tells us about Alexander's life like a story-a tremendously entertaining one, to boot." About the Author sir Harry mason is a noble writer who worked as a special consultant to the buckingham palace during which he was exposed to ample information, historical relics and documentaries. He got the first PhD in literature from Cambridge University, and has been a visiting scholar at Harvard, the American Academy in Rome, and the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, DC. The author of various prior novels, including Alexander the Great, Queen Elizabeth etc He lives with his family Cincinnati, ohio. "An approachable biography . . . readers are guaranteed to walk away from Alexander's narrative with an important knowledge of the specifics and comprehension of his character." Even before Alexander's death, in 323 BCE, his legend had grown, boosted largely by his extraordinarily successful powers of self-promotion. Classics authored by Harry Mason has prepared a short biography that avoids the traps of romanticizing or comprehending the nature of Alexander. It is a well-written, chronological story that lets Alexander's incredible career and accomplishments to speak for themselves. Freeman doesn't dismiss the thuggish parts of Alexander's endeavors, but he does rightly position them within the framework of the pretty ugly world of both Macedonian and Asian political and military confrontations. He also offers great homage to Alexander's father, Philip, whose diplomatic and military talents shaped the diverse hill tribes of Macedonia into the dominating force in Greece. Justifiably, it is Alexander's conquest of the Persian Empire and northern India that comprises the core of the tale and demonstrates his actual brilliance, including his leadership, proficiency in siege warfare, and ability to keep together what expanded into a massive, varied army. General readers will enjoy this wonderful biography of a guy genuinely worthy of the tittle Great. This item is printed on demand.
