Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. What if some of the most puzzling changes in modern society are not merely cultural but evolutionary?Of late, several unique issues swirl around our communal consciousness. Young people seem increasingly uncertain about once familiar life trajectories. Youth anxiety and depression have become subjects of intense concern. Birth rates are declining across much of the industrialized world, while questions surrounding sexuality, reproduction, gender, and even declining testosterone levels have become increasingly difficult to ignore. Smartphones and social media are often offered as convenient explanations. But what if we are looking in the wrong place? In Predator Factor, I posit a comprehensive and admittedly unexpected rationale for what we are observing: evolution itself. The book offers a counterintuitive explanation for several of the social trends that increasingly beg for understanding. Smartphones may be the lowest hanging fruit of blame for youthful ennui, but I suggest that something deeper is taking place. The unseen hand of evolution may be changing as the environmental pressures that shaped our prehistoric ancestors have been radically altered. For millions of years, human beings evolved in an environment of extraordinary predatory intensity. Today, most of those predators have been neutralized. What happens when the evolutionary pressures that once surrounded us disappear? I explore a progression from natural selection to sexual selection and, ultimately, what I describe as "selection by indecision." The hard wired imperatives of survival and procreation that once helped dictate human behavior and life trajectories may no longer operate with the same force. In that sense, evolution's sails may be luffing. And if they are, the consequences could be profound. In Predator Factor, I argue that humanity may be decoupling from evolution, a major game changer in the forward progress of our species. In Predator Factor, I explore how humanity may be decoupling from evolution and how the disappearance of predatory pressures may be reshaping human behavior, reproduction, sexual selection, and modern society. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Of late several unique issues swirl around our communal consciousness. There is a disturbing subset of young people shrugging off their expected life trajectories and a decided rise in youth anxiety, depression and suicide to which some fault the onset of smart phone addiction circa 2010. We also see an uncanny swell in transsexuality with social debate as to their place in a society used to kiln-hardened gender roles. And most of all we note an alarming drooping of population growth in industrialized nations as if people had decided that procreation itself simply lacked the necessary inducement. Testosterone levels have been declining for decades. In my book, 'Predator Factor' I will posit a comprehensive rationale for what we're observing, one that is both satisfying and unexpected, hoping to illuminate by proffering a previously allergic slant, namely evolution. I will offer a much needed counter-intuitive explanation for the above mentioned social trends that beg understanding. Smart phones are just the lowest hanging fruit of blame for youthful ennui, and in some ways my book offers a rebuttal to Jonathon Haidt's book 'The Anxious Generation' as well as books similar to 'Alone Together' by Sherry Turkle. The unseen hand of evolution is now in free fall due to the neutralization of most of the jungle predators our pre-historic ancestors evolved within. We have moved from natural selection to sexual selection, and now, with this hydraulic vacuum of predatory intention, to selection by indecision. While evolution's previously hard wired mandate of survival and procreation used to dictate our life trajectory and behaviors, we now see a luffing of evolution's sails, due, I assert, to the absence of the predatory intensity inherent in our cave man past. In short, people are decoupling from evolution, a major game changer in the forward progress of humanity. …
