Soft cover. Zustand: Poor. The ABC or Alphabetical Railway Guide was a monthly railway timetable for the United Kingdom. It was perhaps more popular than other contemporary manuals as the alphabetical organisation facilitated ease of consultation. This is the September 1946 edition. It includes a map of Scotland that is unattached. It is also provides an interesting insight into social history via the various advertisements. This edition is in very poor condition. The back cover has separated, though it is present, and there are torn and unattached pages. It would perhaps be a useful source for scrapbooking or other decorative or crafting projects.

Paper. Zustand: Fair. No Jacket. 84pp., of hotel ads then 546pp, of guide. The back cover and at least one page before it are missing, so that the last page is the underground tables for the Northern Line (North to South), but (South to North) is missing. Front cover with its adverts etc is attached with a quite large chip at the base, spine is very creased and cracked with some marks, book is generally browning, dog-eared, tatty & worn, with a couple of pencil marginalia. Internally good however, though some creasing and chips to page edges. Fascinating piece of history with some hotels advertised as 'Ideal for the Duration' and the presence of an air-raid shelter featuring as a must-have facility. Also laid-in is an unused tatty and worn wartime Active Service envelope for letters home.
