Der teils mehrseitige Beschreibungstext zu den Tafeln (der unter anderem die botanische Bezeichnungen der abgebildeten Pflanze in zahlreichen Sprachen aufführt wird jeweils mit geliefert. L'opera deriva da un eccellente lavoro di luminari del XVIII secolo supportati dal Re francese Louis XV in seguito guidati dallo stesso Turpin, considerato al tempo il più grande incisore di botanica. La maggior parte delle incisioni sono firmate Turpin & Pretre.
