Livingston, Montana. Clark City Press. [1976] 1990. Quarto (11 x 9). 163 pp. plus colophon. First Clark City Press Edition. Signed by Russ with his Papermill Creek / Tomales Bay monogram. Above his signature Russ has drawn a Pacific salmon in pencil. The text is the same as the 1976 first edition, differing only with a new Introduction by Russ and added black and white photos, many showing Bill Schaadt and Russ Chatham fly fishing. Text drawings by the author. Chatham's book is, from my point-of-view, the best literary work on fly fishing published during the last 40 years. The book is bound in cream cloth with gilt titles on the spine. Photo end papers. Pictorial dust jacket. Examples of the book with an original Chatham drawing are damn hard to find. The book and jacket in fine condition. Signed by Author.

Livingston, Montana. Clark City Press. 1990. Quarto (11 x 9). 163 pp. Limited Edition. Book number 14 of 150 copies published. This book is one of two personal copies of The Angler's Coast belonging to Russ and it was found in his Point Reyes Station home following his death in 2019. It's numbered in Russ's hand but not signed by him. The book has a multitude of black and white photos, with most of them showing Russ and his longtime friend and fishing companion, Bill Schaadt, accompanied by a plethora of large steelhead, salmon and stripers. This is the finest book written in the last 50 years that describes in poignant and thoughtful prose why folks fly fish; Russ Chatham always has his eye on what's relevant, entertaining and interesting to fly fisher's, and he writes about all of it in beautiful language. For 30 years The Angler's Coast has delighted me - it's still fresh and vibrant, and maybe it will delight you, too. The book is bound in cream cloth with gilt titles on the spine. Decorated end papers. Pictorial dust jacket. Textured blue cloth slip case. A nice book. Fine in a fine dust jacket and slip case.

Livingston, Montana. Clark City Press. [1976] 1990. Quarto (11 x 9). 163 pp. plus colophon. First Clark City Press Edition. Signed and with a brief inscription by Russ "For Diane / Kentfield - July 15 / Russell Chatham" / [Papermill Creek / Tomales Bay monogram] / "1991." Laid-in the book is a Striped Bass fly dressed by Russ on a size 3/0 saltwater hook; it measures 5 inches in length, and it too is as scarce as candid booksellers. Also accompanying the book is a black and white print showing a striper illustrated by Russ, 7 x 1 1/2 inches; it was drawn on thick mat paper, which measures 10 x 13 1/2 inches, and it too was completed in a small limitation. The text is the same as the 1976 first edition, differing only with a new Introduction by Russ and added black and white photos, many showing Bill Schaadt and Russ Chatham fly fishing. Text drawings by the author. Chatham's book is, in my biased opinion, the best work on fly fishing published during the last 40 years. The book is bound in cream cloth with gilt titles on the spine. Photo end papers. Pictorial dust jacket. Both are in fine condition. The striper fly and the print are also fine. Signed by Author.

New York. Doubleday & Company, Inc. 1976. Octavo (8 x 5). 158 pp. First Edition. Signed, dated and with a small drawing by the author, "Russell Chatham / Deep Creek" [Papermill Creek/ Tomales Bay monogram] / "1982". The book is also signed on the front end paper by Tom McGuane, who wrote the Prologue to the book. Accompanying the book is a Striper fly dressed by Russell, which measures 5 inches in length and it's dressed on a size 3/0 saltwater hook. There's also a limited edition print drawn by Russ showing a Silver Salmon, penciled in Russ's hand with the number "190/200" / [Papermill Creek/Tomales Bay monogram] / "1994". The print was initially included with the limited edition of Deep Waters published in 1994, and whether it's from one these copies or issued separately, isn't known. The print measures 6 x 7 1/2 inches. The book was illustrated by Russ; his fishing and nature stories and essays are some of the finest written during the last 40 years. Clearly one of the very best books on fly fishing, but it also celebrates his longtime friendship with Bill Schaadt, fly fisherman extraordinaire. A nice book, fly, and print. The book is fine (with the nearly always present binder's glue visible in the gutter of the half-title) in a fine dust jacket; the fly and print are also in fine condition. Signed by Author.
