Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. Omar Rayyan (illustrator). First Edition/First Printing. One of Time magazine's 100 best English-language novels and the most famous of all twentieth-century political allegories, Animal Farm: A Fairy Story by George Orwell is a wise, compassionate and illuminating fable that remains the ultimate satire on the dark side of modern history. The animals at Manor Farm have had enough of Farmer Jones. He's drunk, reckless and cares little for their welfare. When the boar, Old Major, shares his revolutionary plans, the animals are convinced they can thrive on their own once the despot Jones is overthrown. The barnyard animals revolt against their vicious human master only to submit to a tyranny created by their own kind. For as the pigs vie for power, they begin to bear an uncanny resemblance to the tyrants they have overthrown. A seminal anti-totalitarianism satire once considered so controversial it was rejected by several publishers, Animal Farm became an instant success upon its first publication in 1945, following the Second World War. The novel has continued to captivate readers of all ages, and has secured Orwell's position as one of the greatest writers of all-time. Orwell's original title for his novel was Animal Farm: A Fairy Story, and it was first published as such by Secker and Warburg in London, England on August 17, 1945. U.S. publishers subsequently dropped Orwell's subtitle when publishing the novel in 1946, and only one of the translations during Orwell's lifetime kept it. In a 1946 letter from George Orwell to Dwight Macdonald, the author discusses his intent in writing Animal Farm. Orwell writes, "What I was trying to say was: You can't have a revolution unless you make it for yourself; there is no such thing as benevolent dictatorship." A timeless, affecting story of revolutions, idealism, power and corruption, Animal Farm: A Fairy Story is Orwell's most renowned work. The signed limited edition of Animal Farm by George Orwell is presented in three states: Lettered, Numbered and Artist editions. Please note that Artist editions are not numbered. ARTIST EDITION 6" x 9" trim size. 176 Pages. Limited to 1000 copies. Quarter cloth smyth-sewn binding, with Zanders Elephant Hide paper sides. Hot foil stamping on cover and spine. First editions of the novels of George Orwell. Octavo, 6 volumes, bound in full morocco by the Harcourt Bindery, gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, gilt inner dentelles stamp-signed by the Harcourt Bindery, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. An exceptional set, rare and desirable. George Orwell is best known for his allegorical novella Animal Farm (1945) and the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949). Orwell's work remains influential in popular culture and in political culture, and the adjective "Orwellian"â"describing totalitarian and authoritarian social practicesâ"is part of the English language, like many of his neologisms, such as "Big Brother", "Thought Police", "Room 101", "Newspeak", "memory hole", "doublethink", and "thoughtcrime". In 2008, The Times named Orwell the second-greatest British writer since 1945.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Hardcover. Number 65 of 300 numbered copies signed by the illustrator with 26 lettered copies for complimentary distribution. This was the ninety-ninth publication from this esteemed press. It is a scarce edition of Orwell's satirical novel in the form of a beast fable first published in England in 19451945. It tells the story of a group of anthropomorphic farm animals who rebel against their human farmer, hoping to create a society where the animals can be equal, free, and happy. Ultimately, the rebellion is betrayed, and under the dictatorship of a pig named Napoleon, the farm ends up in a state far worse than before. The book was seen as being critical of Stalinist communism. In his introduction, Stansky writes that this may be Orwell's "greatest masterpiece, a perfect text. As a fable about human nature it transcends the political era in which it was written. It is in many ways a despairing book, but it has such compassion and empathy." The illustrator, Jonathan Hammer, is an American born artist based in Madrid, Spain. Over his career he has worked in several media including works on paper, photography, unique books, sculpture, ceramics, and prints. The prints he created for this book are compelling yet disturbing images in black and red of parts of pig body parts, real and imagined. They are grotesque but fitting for the troubling text of this book. Bound in brownish orange cloth with a maroon cloth spine and stylized design to covers. Title in gilt to spine. Printed in Times New Roman on Zerkall ivory book paper. Housed in a maroon cloth covered slipcase with brownish orange spine and ends. Book and slipcase are in fine condition. Measures 7.50 x 10.25 inches. 150 numbered pages plus 24 plates. PRI/102924.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. Limited Edition. Pardon the paraphrase but while all books are equal, some are more equal than others. This is most definitely one such; perhaps the only limited edition ever issued of Orwell s great parable of the Totalitarian State. The paintings are by Bill Mayer, and he has signed and numbered the edition. It is a typical small press production. The gorgeous acid free paper is specially made for the Easton Press. The signatures are sewn, not glued. The text block edges are gilt. The binding is full leather. This magnificent edition will last hundreds of years. The allegorical masterpiece of power and corruption is now available in a signed and numbered Limited Edition of just 1,200 copies.Personally signed by artist Bill Mayer, who has created 10 paintings - it is an injustice to just call them illustrations - each of which is tipped in and then protected by a translucent page. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. Orwell s brilliant allegory of the rise of the Soviet state is compellingly envisioned in this FULL LEATHER Limited Edition Mr. Mayer also illustrated the colophon page which he has signed. The book comes in a custom-crafted clothbound slipcase, which is also sturdily constructed. A limited, hand-numbered edition of 1200, of which this copy number 592. It is signed by the artist.
