Rome, 10 March 1887. Richard Popplewell Pullan (1825-1888), architect and archaeologist, surveyed the mausoleum at Halicarnassus which was excavated in 1856. In 1862 he began excavations on the Temple of Bacchus at Teos. Similar commissions and travels in Asia Minor followed, and Pullan's work was published in a number of books on Byzantine and classical archaeology.
