In den WarenkorbFolding map in original printed boards. 1 page of text containing a table of town populations. Very good condition. Gutter of folder deteriorating, light staining at bottom left of map. Full color by county in Iowa, outline color by state elsewhere. Includes adjoining areas of Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri. Pacific railroad and telegraph routes are shown in Nebraska, which covers from Polk County east - roughly a 4 county wide area of the territory. It would become a state the following year. A rare Chicago pre-fire imprint. Also interesting in Nebraska is the town of Salt Springs in Lancaster County. This appears in the place where Lincoln was built, but neither Lincoln, nor any other town, appears in Lancaster County. At this time, Lincoln was known as the town of Lancaster, founded in 1856. While there is ample historical documentation of salt works in this area, there is no record of Lincoln ever having been known as Salt Springs. There are also quite a few counties in Iowa which show only 1 or no towns. Printed Maps of the Midwest 8-0762.
