Beschreibung: Chatto & Windus, London, 1932. First edition of Huxley's masterpiece. Octavo, original blue cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Jesse Meyers his book Aldous Huxley 1955." Near fine in a very good dust jacket with some rubbing and wear to the extremities. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. Signed trade editions of Brave New World are scarce. "A nightmarish prognostication of a future in which humanity has been destroyed by science. easily Huxley's most popular (and many good judges continue to think his best) novel" (DNB). "After the success of his first three novels, Huxley abandoned the fictional milieu of literary London and directed his satire toward an imagined future. He admitted that the original idea of Brave New World was to challenge H.G. Wells' Utopian vision. The novel also marks Huxley's increasing disenchantment with the world, which was to result in his leaving England for California in 1937 in search of a more spiritual life. The book was immediately successful" (Parker & Kermode, 161-62). Named by Modern Library as one of the 100 Greatest Novels of the twentieth century. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 96575

Beschreibung: Chatto & Windus, 1932. Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition; A beautiful copy of one of the landmark novels of 20th century literature. This volume is in near fine condition with a clean tight binding and bright lettering to the spine ends over light blue cloth boards. Minimal wear to the bottom spine end and edges, book slightly over opened at page 176. A small previous owner's bookplate is affixed to the front pastedown. The near fine dust jacket shows minor wear to the edges and flap folds and some mild discoloration to the spine (very common for the title). Some minor restoration/strengthening has apparently been done to the spine ends and flap folds (this was reported when I purchased the book years ago, the changes are indiscernible). Overall, this is a near fine to fine copy of Huxley's masterpiece. Housed in a custom made clamshell box with gilt spine titles and five raised bands. "One of the few Science Fiction novels of the 1930's that was considered a major work.Deeply thought provoking and exceptionally well written, this is a seminal novel for modern SF." (Barron).
