Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing of Wallace's debut novel, originally submitted as one of two undergraduate honors theses at Amherst College and eventually published when he was just 25 years old. One of just 1,300 hardbound copies, many of which went to libraries and received the typical library marking treatment. This copy was spared the libraries and remains exceptionally bright with a few remainder marks to the bottom edge of the text block which, in this humble bookseller's opinion, lends it a certain charm. New York: Viking Penguin, 1987. Publisher's original half cloth over blue paper boards, spine stamped in metallic turquoise; pp. (viii), 467. An about near fine copy in a near fine, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square, minimal wear to boards, light crease to spine with a bit of rubbing to metallic stamping, remainder stamps to bottom edge of text block. Internally clean but for the typically toned pages. Jacket shows just a touch of shelfwear with none of the usual fading to the spine. A very presentable copy, protected in archival mylar.

First edition, first printing, scarce hardback issue of the author's first novel, signed by him on the title page with his printed name struck-through. Wallace submitted the work as an undergraduate thesis. It was published when he was just 24 years old and won the young author the Whiting Award. "This is Wallace in the nascent stage of his literary powers, attempting to reconcile his interest in Wittgenstein and language with his desire to speak of something urgent and true about us and our beautiful messes" (Schacht). Tori Schacht, "The Last Book I Loved: The Broom of the System", The Rumpus, 8 March 2011. Octavo. Original black cloth-backed blue boards, spine lettered in black on metallic blue ground, green endpapers. With dust jacket. Text block toned; spine panel sunned, nick at foot of rear panel, unclipped: near-fine in like jacket.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. 1st Edition. David Foster Wallace (1987) The Broom of the System , US first edition, first printing, published by Viking. Signed on the title page without further inscriptions. The ultra rare hardback first edition which had an exceptionally low print run of 1,300 copies only. In the 1980s, the States still had a functioning public library system so most copies ended up there with the usual stamp treatment. This copy is like new! Condition: fine in a fine dust jacket. An absolute beauty of a book as the imgages show. Usual toning to paper edges commensurate with age. Otherwise like new. Price unclipped. The author s first novel which was followed by his masterpiece Infinite Jest . A cult author who sadly committed suicide and left this world too early. He was an important voice of the so-called Generation X and criticised consumerism, capitalism and the general shallow way of life. First and Fine. Signed by Author(s).

Uncorrected proof. 463 pp. Fine in printed blue wrappers. The uncommon advance copy of Wallace's first book. Precedes the simultaneously published cloth and paperback first editions, as well as the advance reading copy. One of the scarcest items in the Wallace canon.
