Blue cloth, silver lettrng,w/o d.j. as issued, a Fine copy, inscribed & illustrated by the author on the 2nd flyleaf, illustrated, signed & numbered on the colophon leaf, from the library of Ann Shapiro. First edition, signed, illustrated, and inscribed, No. 430 of 650, by this wonderful American Painter and sculptress, who published a number of privately printed and distributed books in the 1930s. This book was chosen as among the best illustrated books of 1934 by the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
Hardcover. Tan boards with blue lettering. 41 unnumbered pages. Mainly illustrations. "The story of The buttermilk tree is told in verse and pictures by NURA. The sixteen illustrations have been reproduced in photogravure, on Strathmore's Saxon Wedding, by the Photogravure and Color Company. Coy, Hunt and Company have supplied Hurlbut's Shadowmould on which the text matter is printed. Huxley House, Typographers and Designers, have set and printed this book from a foundry casting of Girder Light and Beton Bold. The type was distributed after printing. The binding in Dupont's Fabrikoid is by Russell-Rutter Company, Incorporaled. The edition of this book is limited to six hundred and fifty numbered copies signed by the artist and author. This copy is number "Special Copy." -Colophon. VG- modearte scuffing/soiling and light wear to boards.

A GREAT COPY: Signed and inscribed by author on limitation page (with a drawing of a flower) to her co-publishers (of which there were 11 as listed on the title page): 'Gratefully autographed for my co-publishers, Mr. and Mrs. John Frank. Nura.' Copy #10 of 650 numbered copies issued. Laid in loose are several interesting items: two Christmas cards from Nura (one inscribed but undated, the other, from 1935, blank); an inscribed holiday exhibition postcard from the artist's show at Arden Studios, NYC, 1935; a typed note signed from Nura enclosing two reviews of the book - the first from Time Magazine, the second from the New York World-Telegraph. A good copy in the original pink Fabrikoid (tm) binding (has general surface and edge wear; text has some browning to edges).
