NA. Zustand: Very Good. N.d., circa 1890. Dimensions: 24 by 15 cm base, 4 cm height at tallest. Edges are convincing simulations of books, with lines suggesting closed pages and some variation in tone to suggest the wear of an old book. The two street scenes on the top of the lid have a whimsical, nostalgic charm, highlighting the bustling life at two of the glorious eras in French history -- the reigns of Henri IV and Louis XIV. One lifts the lid to where candy was probably once housed. It is now empty and could be used for all kinds of small and delicate objects. The box has moderate wear and light soiling on its paper pastedowns, but few would not be smitten with its panache and quite unique illusion.
