Still originally shrink-wrapped in publisher`s plastic foil; only opened once for signature. Hardback (as issued). 205mm x 165mm. 64 pages. Designed by Smith. Originally signed by the artist! The young american photographer Alec Soth is one of the shooting stars of the international photo scene. He became famous with his first book "Sleeping by the mississippi" (Martin Parr, The Photobook, vol 2, page 50). Celebrated American photographer Alec Soth has collaborated with his seven-year-old daughter Carmen to create a new body of work made in Brighton, specially commissioned by Photoworks for the Brighton Photo Biennial 2010: New Documents, curated by Martin Parr. Like much of Soth`s previous work, the photographic journey combines poetic and documentary sensibilities, each photograph and idea leading to the next. People, places and objects are woven amongst local newspaper headlines. Serendipity is at play as text and image combine to make uncanny connections and provide a captivating portrait of a city. Alec Soth, born in 1969, is a photographer born and based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His photographs have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the 2004 Whitney and São Paulo Biennials. In 2008, a large survey exhibition of Soth`s work was exhibited at Jeu de Paume in Paris and Fotomuseum Winterthur in Switzerland. In 2010, the Walker Art produced a major retrospective of Soth`s work entitled From Here To There. Alec Soth`s first monograph, Sleeping by the Mississippi, was published by Steidl in 2004 to critical acclaim. Since then Soth has published NIAGARA (2006), Fashion Magazine (2007) Dog Days, Bogotá (2007) The Last Days of W (2008), Broken Manual (2010). In 2008, Soth started his own publishing company, Little Brown Mushroom. He is a member of Magnum Photos. Alec Soth still lives, works and teaches at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He has received fellowships from the McKnight and Jerome Foundations and was the recipient of the 2003 Santa Fe Prize for Photography. His photographs are in major public and private collections, including the Los Angeles County Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Walker Art Center, Gasogian Gallery in New York and Weinstein Gallery in Minneapolis.***************Photoworks. 2010.
