Brussel, M.D., is a New York City psychiatrist whose extraordinary deductions have helped the police solve some of the most bizarre criminal cases of our time, making fiction's classic detectives pale by comparison. Culled from his casebook are six singular examples of his modus operandi--the application of common psychiatric principles in reverse. By studying a man's deeds Dr. Brussel deduces what kind of man he might be, and more often than not he is right--dead right. George Metesky, the Mad Bomber. Albert DeSalvo, the Boston Strangler. Both were as Brussel described them. The man now held for the Wylie murders? Not a chance in ten that he could have committed this crime. Who did it? Dr. Brussels thinks he knows the man. Of the six cases discussed here, four have been widely publicized. But each will be of equal interest to the reader, since Dr. Brussel, as a crime-solving psychiatrist, has attacked them all with the same razor-sharp implements--his agile mind and his own private blend of science, intuition, and (as he candidly points out) luck. The description of just how he goes about accomplishing this adds up to one of the most fascinating crime books ever published.(Publisher).

The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. There is some light bumping and rubbing to the spine ends of the book covers. The text pages are clean and bright. "Frustrated after 16 years of investigation, Inspector Howard Finney of the New York City Police s crime lab turned to James A. Brussel, a private psychiatrist who had performed counterintelligence profiling work during World War II and the Korean War. Brussel developed an elaborate profile in December 1956 and predicted that the Mad Bomber was a foreign-born male of eastern European descent; between 40 and 50 years of age; a bachelor living with female relatives; a clean-shaven, neatly dressed man with an athletic build; and a textbook paranoid. Most famously, Brussel also predicted that the bomber would be wearing a buttoned double-breasted suit. Brussel urged the police to widely publish that profile to draw out the bomber and told Consolidated Edison to search their files for former employees matching that discription."
