It is unfortunate that a number of sincere and attractively written books by writers of communist sympathies, present one side of the conflict with Chinese communists in which the Gereralissimo is shown in a highly unfavourable light. These books have been widely read, but they distort the facts through ignorance of the real character of the Generalissimo and his story. ***It should be recognized that Chiang Kai-shek is not and never has been a mere 'war-lord', and that the circumstances in which he found himself, and the views he held on the destiny and needs of China, compelled him to take the line he did.
