Young Readers of America edition; 2nd Printing. Hardbound 8vo (8.5 inches tall) 180 pages. Index. Landmark endpaper style showing two-color scenes. Description: Illustrated with drawings by Lynd Ward (the jacket art is not credited, but looks to be his work as well). This is Number 50 in the Landmark Books series. This series presents historic and biographical books for young readers, designed to hold the attention as well as to inform. Lives of outstanding people and topics of interest in American and world history are presented in story form with illustrations. ''During the Seminole War, the Seminole leader Osceola's war cry was often heard in the woods and swamps of Florida. It was a warning that the Indian leader was again on the warpath. A just man himself, Osceola was fighting to win justice for his people, the tribes who had settled in Florida in the 17th century and whose land was being coveted by newcomers -- penniless 'borderers' and wealthy plantation owners alike. Skirmishes and attacks burst into a war that, because of Osceola's skillful leadership, became the most difficult campaign ever undertaken against the American Indians.'' May McNeer is the author of two other books in the Landmark series: The Alaska Gold Rush and The California Gold Rush (both of these were also illustrated by her husband, Lynd Ward). BINDING/CONDITION: red cloth with title and series device printed on the front cover; the top edge tint is yellow; a slight spine slant, otherwise a Very Good book, with a Good dust jacket. ISBN: B0006ATRX0.
