The author of this title, Cornelius Cornelii a Lapide (né Cornelis Cornelissen van den Steen; 1567-1637) was a Flemish Jesuit & exegete. Cornelius a Lapide wrote ample commentaries on all the books of the Catholic Canon of Scripture, with the exception only of the Book of Job & the Psalms. This magnificent large folio-size example of early letterpress printing is from a substantial collection of material which was only recently unearthed in Budapest. These pages sat dormant for over 300 years, concealed in a Hungarian cellar. They survived multiple wars & decades of communist rule, in which countless books were destroyed. Leaves from this book were exhibited at the 39th ANZAAB Australian International Rare Book Fair, which was held at Melbourne University, July 2012, in association with The University of Melbourne Cultural Treasures Festival.
