It does appear that the front endpaper has been removed - and perhaps a half-title page or flyleaf as well, for the text begins with the title page. Else, Very Good+ in Wraps: shows indications of very careful use: light wear to extremities; mild rubbing to wrapper covers; a small, faint dampstain at the head of the backstrip; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Clearly, this is a flawed copy, but one that remains structurally sound and tightly bound: a clean, sturdy, presentable reading copy. NOT a Remainder or Book-Club. 12mo. 294 pages. Mass Market Paperback. The ffep bears the ownership signature of Prof. Kenneth Dean Weisinger late of the University of California at Berkeley. Below his signature is, "F U - Berlin", indicating that he acquired this book while doing graduate work at the Free University in Berlin. A special copy of this scarce edition of this Melville work with Elizabeth S. Foster's important introduction apparently unavailable elsewhere.
