Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. Softcover. Black-and-white pictorial covers, stapled at the fold, with five hole-punch perforations. 8 x 10 inches, 14 pages, in very good condition. Illustrated throughout, in black-and-white and with technical drawings, with images of engines and engine components. Pages 2-11 contain short descriptions that give specifications for various components of the engine - valve gear and valves, cylinder, crankshaft, piston, and more. Page 5 contains two technical illustrations: one of the cylinder and the superior placement of its Hamilton exhaust valve, and one of a competitor's inferior cylinder and its poorly-placed exhaust valve. Page 6 has two technical illustrations that compare the Hamilton admission valve that the company uses with another admission valve of inferior construction, as well as a labeled black-and-white illustration of the steam valve gear, showing all of its important components - steam valve rod, cam hook pin, dash pot rod, and more. Page 8 contains cross-section technical drawings of the dash pot and governor. Page 10 contains black-and-white illustrations of the piston both assembled and disassembled; it also contains a labeled black-and-white illustration of the throttle valve, showing the location of the bypass valve and the main valve. Page 12 contains a table of size, dimensions, weights and horsepowers of Hamilton-Corliss engines that operate under 125 pounds of steam pressure; page 13 contains a similar table, but for engines that operate under 150 pounds of steam pressure. Only slight darkening and wear to covers. Cloth tag with the letter "C" is attached to the fore-edge of the front cover. Pages have darkened slightly around edges, but are clean and free of pen or pencil markings. The Hooven, Owens, Rentschler Company, an engine works, was based in Hamilton, Ohio. $25.
