In den WarenkorbPaper Ephemera. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. Offered are two related items regarding a letter written to David Hockney from an "autograph hunter" from Holland. The first is a received thermal fax measuring 8-1/2" by 11-7/8" dated April 6, 1989 from David Hockney's brother and accountant, Paul Hockney, from "Old Bath House - Shipl…ey" (Hockney and Yorke Chartered Accountants - Shipley, City of Bradford, West Yorkshire County, England) to the David Hockney business office in West Hollywood, California. Containing a letter to David Hockney from an autograph hunter in Holland, Paul Hockney writes, "Karen [Kuhlman, David Hockney staff member], Another autograph hunter." The second is the original fax cover sheet measuring 8-1/2" by 11" designed by David Hockney and sent from staff member Carla Rajnus to Cavan Butler of Tradhart Ltd., David Hockney's business associate in London, where she writes, "Dear Cavan, Here's another fan letter Paul sent to us. As per my previous request, will you please handle the European fans? Maybe you don't like this idea. Carla." This original fax sheet is undated, but most likely written within days of receiving the April 6, 1989 fax from Paul Hockney. Condition: corner-creased, periodic edge wear to received thermal fax. Provenance: I purchased this fax, along with several others, at a garage sale in West Hollywood in 1991 given by a young man who then worked at Data-Boy, now a long-defunct gay male bar publication, with its office located next to David Hockney's office on Santa Monica Boulevard and who had, on a few occasions, gone through their trash bin and removed several items of paper ephemera such as this one.

These will be free of charge"; 5) transmittal fax sheet, this one with David Hockney's design, to Mr. Butler from Ms. Rajnus, where she writes in pencil, "2/15 [1989] - Belated [heart shape] to you. 500 Cairo #1's just arrived. Carla"; 6) received thermal fax from Mr. Butler to Ms. Rajnus, where he writes, in part, "I presume the first 1000 Cairo cigarettes have not been delivered yet. Please confirm"; and 7) received thermal fax from Mr. Butler, containing note from Ms. Rajnus ("3/2 [1989] - Dear Cavan - Yes, correct. We have received no other Cairo's - only the 500 on 2/15" - Mr. Butler responds "Ok - 500 more on their way" to which Ms. Rajnus responds in pen (to be faxed back) "Cavan - Cairo's arrived yesterday 3/14 [1989]." Condition: light upper edge wear to thermal faxes. Provenance: I purchased these faxes, along with several others, at a garage sale in West Hollywood in 1991 given by a young man who then worked at Data-Boy, now a long-defunct gay male bar publication, with its office located next to David Hockney's office on Santa Monica Boulevard and who had, on a few occasions, gone through their trash bin and removed several items of paper ephemera such as this one.

Offered is an original thermal fax dated March 20, 1989 sent by Cavan Butler of Tradhart Ltd., David Hockney's business office in London, to Karen Kuhlman, David Hockney's staff member at his business office on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. Measuring 8-1/2" by 12" it contai…ns a letter dated March 5, 1989 from Zak Housey, of Kent, to David Hockney (mailed to Tradhart Ltd.), reading in part, "Dear David Hockney, I am 18 years old. My name is Zak. I live in London and I am hoping to come to America for a vacation, as I am starting Art College in the Autumn. I am trying to be a painter and a photographer. I have been working with photo-montage originally inspired by the work you were doing, but not essentially the same. I would like to see some more of what you have been doing recently and to talk to you about it, and work in general." Cavan Butler writes to the bottom of the letter, "Karen - What's the best way to deal with this letter? Cavan." Condition: wear along upper edge; tiny closed edge tear.
