Le 11 Germinal, les 6 députés dantonnistes sont accusés Talien donne la parole à Legendre qui n'arrivera pas à infléchir la volonté de Robespierre. Sa m…aîtresse Teresa est incarcérée le 12 prairial à la Force. Se sentant menacé, il sera à l'origine, avec Fouché, des événements du 9 termidor en coupant le discours de Saint Just et en empêchant Robespierre de prendre la parole. Robespierre est dénoncé comme tyran. Talien acquiert une dimension de héros et entre au Comité de Salut Public. A la suite de troubles qui sont la conséquence de la chute de Robespierre, Talien est dénoncé comme terroriste, mais par une habile volte-face sauve sa tête en l'échange de celle de Collot D'Herbois et Billaud-Varenne. Carrier et Lebon sont mis en accusation. Le 24 décembre 1794 le tribunal révolutionnaire est supprimé. En 1795, c'est le débarquement de Quiberon. Talien ordonne l'exécution de 727 prisonniers contrevenants à la parole de Hoche, qui leur avait assuré la vie sauve.
