A 1937 police wanted poster and fingerprint card for a high-profile depression-era con man named Joseph Schoenberger (aka Robert Boles, Joseph Brooks, Henry Hill et al). After jumping bond in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1937, he continued his fraudulent activities across the United States, was eventually tracked down, arrested and sentenced to prison in 1942 for orchestrating massive financial frauds. He specialized in a "con game," posing as an oil corporation promoter, targeting vulnerable groups, notably clergymen and priests. On February 24, 1942, The New York Times reported that Schoenberger was sentenced to 18 months to 3 years in prison after his total frauds were calculated to exceed $100,000. Because he operated primarily under fraudulent aliases throughout the 1920s and 1930s, his life following his mid-1940s release from prison remains obscure. In the 1930s, police departments typically folded these mailers into sections to fit standard mailing envelopes or stuffed them into filing drawers. An original piece completely free of horizontal or vertical folds is highly unusual and coveted. Border Sharpness: Unworn, crisp edges mean the piece was never pinned to a station bulletin board, stapled, or subjected to careless handling. The clean visual appearance of the facsimile signature box on the pristine fingerprint card significantly elevates its visual appeal.].…
