This is "The Eastern Star Cook Book", with lots of yummy recipes provided in 1931 by members of The De Ruyter Chapter of the Eastern Star (No 416, O.E.S.) Editors were Worthy Matrons Grace Francis and Stanton Ottman. The book measuring 5 5/8" x 7 3/4" in size, was bound in a darkly mottled stiff paper stock. The title is gilt, but due to time's passage, is just barely visible against the dark surface. Clearly visible are the Eastern Star symbol at the center of the front cover, and - beneath that - a cheerful precis for the book " GOOD THINGS TO EAT and HOW TO PREPARE THEM". Lots of good local period advertising from De Ruyter and other local villages. The title page is sharp and clear : "Eastern Star Cook Book - Tested Recipes are Like Old Friends - Tried and True" Compiled by the Members of De Ruyter Chapter No. 418 O.E.S. / Grace Francis, Worthy Matron / Stanton Ottman, Worthy Matron.
