The first US edition was published in the same year in an edition limited to five hundred copies.An account of the furniture decorating English homes in the seventeenth and eighteenth century. Illustrated from examples in the collection of Percival D Griffiths at Sandridgebury, a pioneering collection bringing together some beautiful examples of of early English decorative arts.Illustrated with one hundred and nine full page plates, of which four are in full colour, and numerous plates throughout. From the library at Julian Park, Hertfordshire, belonging to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie. Audrey was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire, sister to Edward James, a key figure in the Surrealist movement, and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. She was an English socialite known for her beauty and for charming various wealthy men, she was included in The Book of Beauty by Cecil Beaton. A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others. A hedonistic pursuer, she was recognised as one of the 'Bright Young Things'. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally smart with minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. With some soiling and damp marking to the front and rear boards. Internally, firmly bound. With some minor damp damage to the lower right margin of the text block, chipping the occasional leaf particularly to the first and last few. The pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with one hundred and nine full page plates, of which four are in full colour, and numerous plates throughout. Good. book.
