Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. 1st Edition. Printed in the U.S.A. Date on the title page. First edition, stated. First Printing. Introduction; 264 pages. The original light blue cloth shows just a touch of rubbing to the extremities, with black lettering clear on the spine. The interior is crisp and bright, despite hints of toning to the top edge and to the endpapers; a bump to the lower corner shows on some interior leaves. [Please see my five images of the actual book.] The original unclipped ($3.95) dustjacket is good only, with sunning, a few small tears, and white paint smudges at the edges---no text affected. [Again, see images.] "The dullness of fact is the mother of fiction. How many lies originate out of no desire to escape punishment, amass undue credit, or gain an end, but simply to make a good story. And a story, endlessly repeated, grows by accretion of false detail, so that the fish one almost catches becomes larger, the retort to the boss more biting, the fright more frightful, and the narrow escape incredibly hairlike. § To me there is no pleasure in the writing of science if I cannot make the effort of capturing some of the gauze and iridescence that belongs to the truths snatched out of the chaos of ignorance, far more than they can ever belong to some puny lie." As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.
