Octavo, gray cloth (hardcover), 137 pp. Near Fine, with slight foxing, in a Very Good dust jacket with light edgewear. From dust jacket: This book is planned as an elementary course in Harmony and Composition and is the outcome of many years' experience in teaching, writing and lecturing on musical subjects. It is, so to speak, an introduction to the subject -- simple, interesting, comprehensive, essentially practical, but carefully omitting in the interests of simplicity the more confusing technicalities whenever possible. Mr. Leslie Orrey, the author, is well-known as a Lecturer in Music at the Goldsmith's College and formerly at Moreley College. Thus he understands fully the needs and difficulties of students. In addition, he is a frequent contributor to the literary and musical reviews, although perhaps his broadcasts in the Forces Educational Series and in the schools programmes have given him his widest public and achieve most to establish his reputation as an interesting and not too conventional teacher. Although the author is primarily concerned with music and musical results, he places the least emphasis on examinations, but this should not deter the examination candidate, who will find the practical information and the method of tuition invaluable. Likewise the performer will achieve from the book a more intelligent interpretation, while the listener's appreciation and perception will be quickened and enriched by a greater understanding. Music, Culture, Performing Arts, Music, Musical Theory, Education, Textbook, School Book bslic.

Musical book given as prize for Music at Bradfield College in 1948, very clearly signed in ink by "MONTGOMERY OF ALAMEIN", opposite the school prize plate. "Monty" paid a visit to the school in 1948, inspected the Bradford JTC who formed a guard of honour and later addressed the whole school and presented prizes amongst them this one which is also signed by the headmaster, John Hills. Unusual item with a nice association. Signed By Montgomery and Headm.
