Nothing is ordinary here: Neither its appearance nor it itself; neither its past nor its present. There is a land - Gobustan; it would conjure, fascinate and charm there and then. If you want to understand the notion hidden under the word Gobustan with all its breadth, intensity and lucidity you ought to travel not as a tourist or observant but as a real art-lover, and at dawn. There is a land_Gobustan. Somewhere near Duvanny it would make you get off the car. You would continue your way Southwards. The sun would peep out from behind the Caspian Sea and suddenly your shadow would emerge before you and as a guide lead you to Gobustan. If the art is not an entertainment or recreation, range of historical events and chronology for you, you would feel and think. Walking through the exhibits you would recollect the past centuries, years and months and come to the conclusion that time is everlasting but life passing. Thinking you wouId become sad, depressed and distressed. There is a land Gobustan. The sky above your head would lower its dome and belittle it and make an ordinary door out of it to the temple. Passing through this door you would find yourself in a legend and fairy land. You would realize that you have the right to be proud of your art, your past and present. Here is the sacred cradle of our art. We have learned to walk holding by this cradle. The initial track of our art has taken its start from here. Advancing along this path we have reached the wide roads. We have discovered the beauty here. Here we have learned how to worship the beauty. Those who call Gobustan a museum in the open air are not mistaken. About 4000 drawings, designs and inscrptions pertaining to different epochs have been revealed here. Rear Admiral Gontayev is quite right in saying that each exhibit of Gobustan is the priceless wealth of the people. What riches may these relics of our ancestors be compared with? The Honoured Scientist, a well-known archeologist Isag Jafarzade has done irreplaceable services in discovering the Gobustan cliff drawings. On his initiative and under his leadership in 1947 a scientific expedition was organized to explore the Gobustan cliff drawings, The scientist has devoted to this noble work more than 20 years of his life. By a special decision of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR of September 9, 1966, Gobustan State Historical and Art Reservation has been organized.

Bitlis Eren Ünivesitesi Yayinlari No. 6. Gobustan National Park (Azerbaijani: Qobustan Milli Parki), officially Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape, is a hill and mountain site occupying the southeast end of the Greater Caucasus mountain ridge in Azerbaijan, mainly in the basin of Jeyrankechmaz River, between the rivers Pirsagat and Sumgait. It is located west of the settlement of Gobustan, about 40 miles (64 km) southwest of the centre of Baku on the west bank of the Caspian Sea. The territory of Gobustan is cut up with numerous, sometimes rather deep ravines (in Azerbaijani: gobu). That is a suggested origin of the Gobustan geographical name. In 1966 Gobustan was declared a national historical landmark of Azerbaijan in an attempt to preserve the ancient carvings, relics, mud volcanoes and gas-stones in the region. The mountains Boyukdash, Kichikdash, Jingirdag, and the Yazili hill were taken under legal government protection. These mountains are located near the Caspian Sea, in the southeast part of Gobustan. Ancient Petroglyphs at Gobustan National Park, Azerbaijan. UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2007 Gobustan was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site considered to be of "outstanding universal value" for the quality and density of its rock art engravings, for the substantial evidence the collection of rock art images presents for hunting, fauna, flora and lifestyles in pre-historic times and for the cultural continuity between prehistoric and medieval times that the site reflects.; Quelle Wikipedia. - Gorgeous Illustr.
